What is failed to be mentioned is that Clinton shifted the money by allowing any function of the govt can be bid on and outsourced. So yes he cut jobs, but expanded with contractors. Doge hasn’t even brought this up. How much is wasted with external contracts that also need to be cut.

The difference is (and it’s a big one) - the contractor side can optimize the product (the delivery of the needed task) by holding their employees accountable. If they suck, they get fired. This does not happen in the government easily or with even mild difficulty - it’s almost impossible. I’m speaking from a point of considerable personal experience.

Government needs good people. It needs to be a balance. Right now there is no balance when upwards of 30% of the federal workforce literally sits there and does nothing all day long. That is harder to do on the industry side while remaining gainfully employed.
