Who decides who gets moderated and how? Where is the line? Do we need to have a vote every time someone pisses someone off? There aren’t any rules posted on here, so what is a violation? How do you objectively define a troll? Even amongst the posters in this thread there is not a consensus of how to handle things.

Elon is talking a good game but has anyone noticed a change at X the last few days? My feed is almost all never Trump and democrat tweets. The people I actually follow are less than half of my timeline. I don't get any just random pro Trump tweets but will get tons from Lincoln project or republicans against Trump. It's been noticable.

There are some people that want some users outright banned, some that want thread bans, some that want an elaborate scoring system and others that just suggest the use of the ignore function

At what point do we distinguish between a troll and a difference of opinion? Some are more obvious than others, some imply sarcasm, some are just being assholes. I feel that moderation, unless outright necessary, is a very slippery slope for something we call a Free Speech Forum. Once you set the bar for moderating someone, it just keeps getting lower and lower. We’ve seen it happen on so many websites and platforms

I’ve done something about users who have spammed the thread or posted porn. In the meantime, I suggest using the ignore function if someone is bothering you.

Calling a place a Free Speech Forum has slippery slopes that cut both ways. It can move into over moderation, where you have those in power abusing it. I totally agree with wanting to avoid that. We aren't anywhere near that. But it can also move towards under moderation, where there is a decline in the quality of the discourse because all behavior is free speech, so none of it can be reasonably moderated. This is where we have been trending a bit towards as of late. And lots of people see it and call it out.

There are baseline criteria that can be developed to help define trolling behavior versus general jackassery and where certain repeat behavior is more acceptable or less acceptable, such as this thread; and how escalations can be handled. Think of it as Constitution for TFSF. I think this group is pro-Constitution.

As popularity of this site increases, probably as we move towards the 2024 election, this will become a bigger issue.

Also, if there are true trolls (paid or otherwise) that keep coming back under different accounts, that needs to be solved. Same thing for users that may be using multiple active accounts.

I appreciate all you have done on this site and what you continue to do.

I understand where everyone is coming from. We’ve tried and tried to find solutions.

One thing that makes it difficult is the nature of this thread. So many different streams of information on so many different topics. Arguments can really disrupt things, but many of those arguments need to be had. I’ve seen people change opinions over the years in this thread.

At one point, anything anti-Trump was considered trolling.

So many times people that get called trolls in here firmly believe what they say. I see @Stray joined the site within the last few days and I can see through his IP he’s a legitimate dude from Germany, he’s not posting from a VPN.
