Sort of like my neighborhood except with houses. The city spent 3 years rebuilding a street through the area - royal pain in the ass, too. The reason for the street rebuild was to put sidewalks in so the children weren't walking in the road to their school. Then they shut down the school.

There was a report recently that said there were serious problems with Hoover Dam being able to produce electricity due to low lake levels. I saw photos of Lake Mead from last year and recently which shows a marked decline in water. In fact, someone said they were finding a large number of bodies in the lake as it declines.

All new commercial projects in the area are required to dig a large storage basin on part of the property to contain rain runoff from overwhelming the sewer system. We have all these little lakes around town after rain and then a host of mosquitoes as it goes away.
On the road recently replaced, the city put two "chicanes" in the road to stop speeders who weren't speeding. They literally have those "swervy arrow" lane change signs on the street leading to the chicanes. No way two cars can pass each other at the same time and the curbs are black from cars hitting these outcroppings.

It is lower now than when the video was made. Remember the more it drops the more impact, because the bottom is vee shaped.
Yeah, as he mentioned, these are the spillways. I think the last time they were used was back around 1998 or so. When the dam is full, to avoid water levels getting too high, the spillways allow the water to flow over, through those large pipes, and down to the Colorado river below. They're actually pretty cool to see when it's happening, but we're a very long way away from that happening anytime soon.
