I lean in this direction as well. I've not been a fan of using the police as a revenue source.
On another note what does the board know about solar generators? Someone mentioned it to me as a way to keep a freezer and fridge going in case of a shutdown.
I have a solar generator. They are basically a deep charge battery, that can be solar charged or charged through a gas/diesel generator.
So what do you get for a whole pile of money? You get a charge controller, an inverter and a fancy little battery pack.
If I was doing it again, I would just buy a decent gasoline generator, and run it once every day or 2 and keep the freezer cold. Do not open the freezer anymore than necessary.
At the end we had 5 freezers going for meat and veggies. Went and got a freeze dryer and got rid of all the freezers except one to hold meat or vegetables while you process with the freeze dryer.
The freeze dried food lasts 20-25 years and weighs nothing and no freezers running year round.
The initial change over was expensive it seemed but the payback was worth it, a couple of totes of freeze dried food and you are good for 6 months.
You save big on left overs.
I smoked a pork butt, we had a meal out of it, the wife freeze dryed the left overs, 6-8 months later the family ate the rest of that smoked butt, tasted like it was just off the smoker.
That is were I think you really save.
