I think I outlined this in a prior version of the thread

My take: Thiel and Musks first shot was to create a bankless transaction system and they joined forces with PayPal. That obviously didn’t get to the scale necessary and the ability to create decentralized system was a decade ahead of the infrastructure (broadband + smartphone) to to disrupt the fractional reserve system that requires a decentralize model, but I believe that was their intent.


I believe Thiel has continued to iterate on the idea.

When I was in college, I had an internship at a fish hatchery. The hatchery director lived on site and he would pool money from people to raise meat birds. You would place an order for x number of birds and he would raise them. We then had chicken killing day at the hatchery. He wouldn't let us interns actually kill them (probably for the better) but we participated in every other stage of processing. An experience I did not sign up for initially but glad that we had it.
