Found this interesting. Is a copy and paste from a forum friend on another site. She is from Ireland....It is about the consequences of $10/gal gas.
We are now having our second go-round with gasoline (petrol) being around 10 dollars a gallon. That also happened a few years ago in 2008/2009 when the Irish economy and banking sector crashed.
Please do not tell me this is a smaller country so things are not as bad, compared to some commutes in Texas or parts of California these days that is probably true, however, our distances for getting food, supplies, working, or entertainment out here in rural Ireland are almost the same as they were in rural California when I was growing up.
Anyway, in 2008 we had three people from our village doing the 2 hours each way commute to Dublin for work, within a week, two had been forced back on "job seekers allowance" (aka the dole) and the third bought a motorcycle. Things kind of went downhill from there.
This time I expect this situation to result in a reversal in people going back to the office, the government will be forced to allow homework for the foreseeable future along with pouring more money into "local hubs" so people in the rural areas can work long-distance even if they don't have good (or any) internet at home.
Truckers met with the government today to "explain" that without subsidies or some other help, trucking and the transportation of goods will simply stop. Most truckers are independents or small companies, they simply can't afford to fill their rigs, so they won't; being an Island, almost all our food and other essentials come in this way.
Yesterday, the government declared the country was likely to go on a "war footing" with farmers being required to plant grain crops (with some government funding), farmers responded that after nearly 80 years of shifting to dairy farming and the importing of a lot of grains, they no longer have the equipment needed to actually till the land, plant the crops or harvest them. I mean some farmers do, but not nearly enough for every farmer with land to put "some acres" in grain. As one farmer put it, "that is like expecting a plumber to build a wall for you, they are a plumber, not a carpenter - I've never grown grain in my life!"
But what really happens with 10 dollars a gallon gas is that most people simply don't go anywhere, pretty much all discretionary travel stops. You go to the grocery store once a week or once every two weeks, anyone who can work from home does. Part-time employees are forced to quit at places like supermarkets because they can't afford to get to work.
Life doesn't totally stop, but it does slow down, and either government (taxpayers) provide some support to some industries like trucking and transport or they stop.
The situation isn't sustainable, WWII here when the gasoline ran out, people still had horses, carts, and carriages to pull out and use - but that isn't true anymore.
I have no idea what will happen this time, in 2008 the problem only existed for a few months before improving, this time it could get worse before it gets better.
Oh and we have no real public transit out here, that is true of a lot of rural Ireland...
I remember seeing this poster in Spencer gifts at the mall in early 80s, the caption was “Hemorrhoids”. Lol
Maybe get a bike?Found this interesting. Is a copy and paste from a forum friend on another site. She is from Ireland....It is about the consequences of $10/gal gas.

I would happily contribute a chunk to this if we had the right legal representation. I have to believe there is an angle to play by showing illegal government use of tax dollars and as a result, a lawsuit and refusal of filing returns and paying taxes.I have filed my annual tax extension while I plan on figuring out how to not send any of my hard earned money to this illegal regime. Any body know a young lawyer ready to take on a class action suite against this rogue corporation? Dead fucking serious and am looking for others to join in this movement. Fuck whatever parasite this is that bleeds this nation dry! Fuck’em all! And SKOL!
These people are just brokenMy youngest son and I were driving home from an AAU workout and we stopped at a Wawa in King of Prussia (outside of Philly) to get some food. This woman walked from her car into the store and then back out again in this getup…

#out@CBSHmmm, many imposters - cabalists - dress in Soviet uniforms. The fake drama backdrop is so obvious especially when "reporters" wear flak jackets w/helmets and the entire camera crew dresses in jeans and t-shirts.
Meat Rabbits can be raised quietly in towns and cities were chickens may be restricted. Look for older meat breeds. If you live in the south they need shade. When I was in college, I had an internship at a fish hatchery. The hatchery director lived on site and he would pool money from people to raise meat birds. You would place an order for x number of birds and he would raise them. We then had chicken killing day at the hatchery. He wouldn't let us interns actually kill them (probably for the better) but we participated in every other stage of processing. An experience I did not sign up for initially but glad that we had it.
