I'm a weight loss expert as I've battled being skinny and/or fat my entire life :)

I can go through an entire day with strict discipline, not giving in to any bad eating. I simply do not crave junk food during the day. However, at night, it's a whole different demon. I want to eat everything in sight. Anyone else with this problem?
Drink lots of water and go to bed earlier

How's everyone doing on the weight loss and exercise so far? I didn't do great this weekend, but overall am reasonably happy. Down 4 pounds in 2 weeks but plenty still to go

I weighed 251 a minute ago. Which is +1 lbs

Muscle? Or eating too much candy at night?

It's always tough when you jump back into weights. Long term you'll lose some weight, but in my experience, it's pretty common to add some weight initially. Keep pushing through and maybe switch from candy to dark chocolate or something like that, in smaller amounts. My go to lately has been pickled ginger like you'd get with sushi. It's got a little bit of a sweetness to it that will usually appease me when I'm getting those cravings but much healthier.

I’m trying to get some quest bars to have at night rather than piles of junk food

When I start a new routine, whether it's weights or running, I always seem to have a few lbs weight gain initially, then after a few weeks it starts coming off quickly. Not sure what that is or if I'm just weird, but I try not to obsess over the scale too early and just keep working.

Yesterday:
before work:
walk 30 minutes

after work:
warmup
6 sets of 10 squats (not heavy. 140-200 range)
3 sets of 10 tricep extensions
3 sets of 10 calve extensions
3 sets of 10 lunges each leg (body weight)
3 sets of pull ups (9-7-7)
5 minutes of abs
15 minute walk

I have slowly been transitioning into jogging too, but usually on those days, I skip the weights and just do cardio

You think those calf extensions are helping ya?

Just trying to get an overall body workout
I was being a smart ass with my remark, trying to get a laugh. But if you really want to hit your calves within a simple exercise that'll do more for you overall, seriously try just basic jumping jacks. Try to do around 5 sets at 100+ at a time, adjust as necessary. It'll surprise you.

If you work those sets into a superset with an exercise like bench, squat, or deadlift, look out!

I figured you were but that's okay. I usually do it with the squat bar when it's already set up with weight on it, so I'm not going out of my way to do it. I've got a bit of a bum shoulder at the moment, so I'm a little limited on what I can do so I'm trying to be creative to have enough exercises to cover 5 days a week.

I think I'm going to incorporate some jump rope in as well. That'll definitely work the calves, as well as just about everything else.

Not sure what's on the agenda today yet. I'll finish up work in about 1/2 hour, then get into something though. Yesterday was cardio day, splitting time between the treadmill and the rowing machine, for a combined total of about an hour. Down to 221 as of this morning. Want to be under 210 by end of May.

Starting tomorrow, I am gonna get back into running. Anyone wanna compete? I figured once a day, whoever wants to, can post a pic of their time/distance using the Ease Into 5k app, and their weight. The person that records the most distance and the person that records the most weight loss get a prize? Maybe like crootn bucks or something @Croot_Overlord ? Anyone have a better idea? Help needed. This is purely for motivation.
I applaud you and wish you (and all who participate) good health.

That said, if you ever see me running, you need to run, too, and pray you can outrun me. If I'm running, something terrifying is chasing me and I can't take it and don't have a gun to shoot it.

Day 6: zilch other than labor work on a house.

Day 7: zilch other than yard work.

Day 8: Today - on the clock.
I had a couple good workouts this weekend. I’m down 1 lb (249) since the thread started, but I feel like my overall conditioning has caught back up. I’m down about 13 lbs since my peak weight. Wish I had taken measurements before this started like @Chris Farley suggested because even though the scale hasn’t changed much my clothes are fitting better again

Got a strength day today:

Great job!

I've been stuck on 221 for a few days, but typically the weekends are tougher for me to stay on track, including not doing as well on the calorie intake, so I'll consider that a win for the week. Hoping to be down to 215 by the end of May, if not sooner, then 205ish by end of June. Once I get down to that range, I'll see how I feel and if I want to try to maintain that weight, or drop any further. I'm 6'-3 with a pretty big frame (legs and butt), so that would be pretty light for me.

Weekends are tough. I try not to weigh myself until Wednesday just out of stopping the frustration. Been working. Was 208 Thursday AM. Goal is still a 1 in front by my birthday in July.

That should be very doable. On my last round of weight loss a few years ago, I experienced the same thing, which is frustrating too. It makes it hard to drop consistently when the weekend comes and you undo all of the good work from the week. So now, I've learned my lesson a little bit, and at least just try to maintain over the weekend. Even a 1/2 or 1 lb weekend gain isn't too bad, but when you go up 2-3, it sets you back a whole week typically.

I'm 6'1" and going to evaluate what 215 feels like before I push further.

245lbs at that height was full blown-out Dad Bod. Shit wasn't funny anymore.

I can't stress enough that if you are trying to up miles run per week, that you need to run slowly until you've got a solid base of cardio and needed ancillary muscles.

So slow that you're almost embarrassed.

It'll allow you to run almost daily and for longer durations.

How's everyone holding up so far? I'm down to 220 now (from 226.5 on 4/20. I'll get a workout in later, but since I have a pull up bar next to me, I decided to challenge myself to a pull up test today. Every time I get up from my chair, I have to do 5 pull ups. Up to 20 so far, but could be pushing 50 or so by the end of the day.

Finished Day 1 of Week 4 in LIIFT4 today. Not weighing myself and haven't run as much as I've wanted in the last few weeks, but seeing some positive changes. Feel like I'm replacing some fat with muscle so the scale probably won't show my progress... just gotta keep grinding (and hopefully running a little more).

I guess I missed this thread. Oh well.

January 2021- 252 lbs

May 2021- 217

Hit the treadmill ( fat burning pace not all out running), hit the weights, drink lots of water, take every vitamin/supplement known to man, stop eating shit food, and drink beer sparingly.

It really isn't hard.

Well, it's hard depending on what you want to do. It takes time and discipline to stick to it long enough to make a difference, but yeah, once you make a commitment to doing it, it's not rocket surgery. You have to expend more calories than you consume, and keep that consistent for quite a while to make a big difference.

Congrats on the 35# drop by the way, that's great. I really focused on this starting at the beginning of March, so just over 2 months ago. Was 231 then, and was 216 now, so down 15# total, for just under 2#/week. That's the hard part is staying consistent for the long term.

What's your ideal weight? I think 200-205 for me, but we'll see once I get down there. Should be 6-8 weeks more for me to get there at the current rate.

Man, I am stuck hovering between 208-212. I can't break 208. Fast for a day, ate no meat for 2, just can't below 208.

Just keep exercising and don't obsess over the scale... it'll come. Ordered a 6 pack of each of these near-beer IPAs to try out when I really want an IPA but don't want the booze. They are supposed to be pretty awesome for what they are.
