You’re right that I never expected Ukraine to have had the overwhelming success that they’ve enjoyed thus far.

The fact that you were in our military disillusions me greatly. I usually thank those who served but you are an exception. I had hoped that at some level our military had an inkling of what was going on in this world but you have single-handedly destroyed that illusion.

A great example of this would be the southern states during their rebellion. They had no right to independence and a foreign power acknowledging their grievances wouldn’t have made those grievances legitimate or those states independent. The same can be said of Russia’s actions towards the Donbas, Crimea, or any other occupied territories.

Ukraine fighting a war to bring rebels, or Russians, in those territories to heel would be just as morally justified as what Lincoln did to suppress the southern rebellion here in the states.

Over 140,000 are seriously wounded. 12 million people, minimum, have left the country. Ukraine will be a failed state for decades even if Russia leaves.
