My old laptop is starting to bog down and get really slow, so I'm considering buying a new one. Anyone have any good rec's for a reasonably priced laptop? I don't really need it to be super high performance, as I likely won't be doing any gaming or anything on it, but I'll use it for work periodically on road trips, so I need it to have some decent power for the screen sharing and interface with my work computer remotely.

It seems like the last laptop I bought really hasn't lasted like previous ones, but maybe that's just how they're designing them these days. Buy a new one every 3-5 years. Anyways, I'd appreciate any recommendations that you have with regards to new laptops. TIA

Anyone know much about processors? Some of the cheaper systems are on "Xth" generation i3, or i5, and then some are i7 processors. Will they still service i3 or i5 processors, or are those getting outdated?

Similarly with battery life. Do the cheaper/older systems use different battery technology to where they stop holding charge sooner? My current computer is a Dell that's 3-4 years old, and at this point, it can barely even be used without being plugged in.

Sorry for my ignorance on this. I just don't want to buy a system that looks good online, but only last a couple years.

It was 2018, so I doubt comparable...but I think hers was around $3,400...mine $2,700...hp envy series

I use it mostly to look inside people's walls for termites or animals. Bought a 35 foot endoscope camera for that. Software allows me to watch on the screen and record.

Yeah, I don't want to spend a lot, but also don't want a piece of junk that won't work when I do actually need to use it. That top one I quoted above looks pretty decent in the 700 range. Some of the i5's above would probably get the job done too, and are a couple hundred less.

Don't know about the particulars. It does what I want and that's all that matters. If I want something more then I used my desktop which is newer and faster.

I have had it for 4 years I think. It did sit idle for a year without charging, but when it was new and before i let the battery die, it had good life. Purchased through the Tuning School.com....it is their recommendation for connecting to vehicles for the purpose of tuning. I have had no issues with it at all.

I am not much on computers but i suppose the i5 is superior to the i3? Not sure, but it works

RAM is what I look at when buying computers. RAM is what gives you the ability to run multiple things at one time without getting bogged down.

Processor speed is for playing games and shit, doesn’t seem necessary for what you are describing.

I bought some type of HP, not at home with it right now, but think I spent about $1200 on it and it’s all I ever need to do work shit. Can run zoom, excel and more with no problems.

Anyway, get as much RAM as you can in your price range is my advice.

Good point. The thing is, right now, almost every new system has a bunch of RAM. Way more than any of them had 5 years ago. So in terms of daily usage and periodic work usage, I'd think that the RAM will be adequate. I just don't want to have to replace this system in 3 years, like my other one.
