Our poker league normally takes December off (we play once per month). We did not play in April 2020, but did play every month since. I ended up getting C19 at our March game. Two other players tested positive too. No doubt it's a scenario for spread, being inside in close proximity for hours, handling chips and cards.
To those wondering how to speak to fearful people... First, understand that you can provide them information, but they might still choose to be scared. Here are some basic facts:
1. Almost half of the deaths in this country are nursing home residents. The median life expectancy for someone being admitted to a nursing home is 5 months. Sadly, these people didn't have long to live anyway, and C19 only moved up their timetable by a couple of months.
2. The CDC says that 5% of C19 deaths have C19 listed as the sole cause of death. Of the remaining 95%, those people had an average of 4 significant health issues.
Basically, if you're not near the end of your life in a nursing home, and if you're in generally good health overall, then C19 is just another cold virus.
