I have a friend who has several ham radios cause I was thinking of asking to borrow one of his.
Thing is, u need to have a license amd U believe they are regulated by the FCC..

But u would also need one of them big ol antennas mounted somewhere on it roof to get some distance im order just to talk to someone. But he had something installed in his house to help bypass that..forget what the hell he called it..maybe a node? Or something

Basically even if he loaned me a radio I wouldn't be able to get much distance on it unless I had an antenna or a node or what not to send th signal anywhere... fwiw.

the ham radios help you communicate over long distances, you dont have to have a license if your not a professional or you wont use commercially something along those lines

i only wanted them for walkie talkie type functions and listening to emergency channels

@Fig-Jam was looking into them. There were a few handles that had been around for year with 0 posts until the other day. Now have hundreds of posts all in the LaC thread. I suspect the ridenbiden handle is a service with a group of people controlling it strictly to make political discussion miserable.

Yeah if you want to get emergency stuff, and close stuff they would be good to have, but if you wanted to communicate any great distance you would need a larger antenna to do so. I didnt know about the amatuer stuff so thats good info thx.
