I know from experience that when players enter the division 1 basketball program, they are given a full battery of tests by a cardiologist to make sure there are no undiagnosed or unknown heart conditions. This is before they are allowed to begin participation.

The one that stood out to me was Hank Gathers. (besides one of my favorite basketball players ever in Reggie Lewis) I remember watching those Loyola Marymount teas play. He and Bo Kimble were so much fun to watch. No defense was ever played but if you like up and own basketball, that was a team you watched whenever possible. Gathers was really, really good and would have had a chance to be an excellent to great NBA player. They played one of the greatest games I have ever seen against LSU and Chris Jackson.
