Son is participating at a baseball camp at Tulane this weekend. First time we had to get a doctors signature saying his heart and lungs sound good prior to participating.

My fiancée's 16 year old was just told by his football coach that everyone on the team is going to have to go through this type of screening. He is currently training with a group for off season prep stuff and they were not required to do so. Most likely because it is a private entity. My surgeon was relieved that I am pureblooded. One less thing he worried about although I did have to wear those things that inflate around my calves my entire stay. I have been worried if I needed surgery down the road that required blood transfusion how that would work. I think I would want to go donate my own blood for use.

Exactly. My brother donated 2 pints before his knee replacements. I have not asked but doubt anyone would object and they might be relieved. Allow enough time to do it before surgery. That's a great question. I haven't given blood recently, so I'm not sure if that's a question that they're asking, or if the blood companies run tests to verify this or not.
