I believe that AF1 is simply the designation given to any plane carrying the president and is not specific to any one plane. What would happen is if he were in the air on prior to swearing in he would be on AF1. As soon as Biden is sworn in, the plane Trump is on would then have its call sign changed from AF1 to something different.

This is correct.. as there are four in rotation right now.. a shortage of flying options is not an issue.

F35 is too expensive to build still but getting better.

The cost to fly them is going the opposite direction and therefore we are playing right into China and Russia's hands by making vulnerable our air dominance (especially in a first strike scenario). US and allies can't keep enough planes in the air let alone get them out of production.

Given it's an inferior aircraft to the F-22 to begin with the whole program should be scrapped and the F35 tech dumped into the F-22 or simply move on to 6th gen now.

All recent past presidents are allowed to use AF 1 to travel back to their home. When the inauguration is complete the plane is designated by its tail number which I believe is 28000.

My dad just told me that he read an article where it said Trump is trying to get out of DC and on AF1 before the inauguration so he doesn’t have to ask Biden if he can borrow AF1.
