My hot take:
Cops should only police texting while driving. It’s easy to catch, would actually keep us safer, and provides high revenue. Let’s be honest and admit municipalities are only interested in money.

If they were interested in money they would have a bevy of dedicated traffic policemen. The cities could get rich off of speeding, red light/stop sign runners, texters and others. But, no. It's easier to get the tax appraiser to increase property taxes on everyone.

In SC they do. Not sure how they can enforce. They'd need a search warrant for getting evidence off your cell

Those high revenue/low risk crimes tend to be committed by the less affluent, ergo, maybe the lack of enforcement.

I was actually told by one of my town's city council members that they used to ticket people but they complained about being "singled out" and the city backed off writing tickets. Yet, the speeding, and red light running continues. Neighbor was t-boned 3 weeks ago by a red light runner.

It's little wonder that lawlessness is everywhere. The law breakers aren't held accountable for minor offenses and believe, as we've seen, they can do anything illegal without fear of consequences.
