• Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

There is no margin call. That is absurd. Elon’s cost basis for his shares is $0. A margin call is when you own 1000 shares of stock but only have enough money to buy 100 shares. Your brokerage loans you money to cover the balance. If the overall value of the holding falls (as Tesla is now) the brokerage would demand more cash in your margin account to cover the losses. Elon has no losses as his stock holding value has dropped but none of his holdings are on margin.

There is also a large thought that Elon could re-negotiate the price of the transaction. Market has dropped 15-20% and if Twtr didnt have the elon backstop it would probably drop to about 50% of its current value. Part of the reason its trading $45 instead of $54.

I personally don't think Elon give a fuck and will get the deal done at $54. He wants to own Twtr that bad.
