• Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

The biggest shock when I'm in the states is food prices by far.

What you purchased here is $5.48 per Kilogram or 2.2lbs in CO

If you divide $5.48 by 2.2 chicken breast here is $2.19 a pound

You see that you get 4 breast here for $5.48 + 2 more would be $7.67 or $1.28 per breast.

I can get all my groceries delivered for about $1.50

BTW that is at the big supermarket here.

If I go outside of my neighborhood to a local meat market the price is less by about another 1/3

I like going to the local meat market - I'm about their only gringo client - I can get Beef Tenderloin there for about $3.50 a pound

If you get outside the city into some of the surrounding pueblos it's even less.

"Zip-Coding" exists around the world - prices for the same items are always higher in more affluent areas.

I also had to spend $28.98 on a 6 pack (“family pack”) of chicken breasts (again at Publix). Not greenwise, but their normal shit. That’s almost $5 per breast.

My generation is living in a time where chicken breast is some prized dinner option. It’s fucking insane.
You're also getting a free vaxx and the opportunity to catch the avian flu in each bite....they're really giving us our moneys worth.

When I took over my fathers finances when he was fihhting Alzheimer's, I was stunned when going through his old (60's) finances. How we lived on what he and my mother made was mind blowing. 4 of us, usually a dog, took vacations and had a nice house. The World was different.
that was back when silver was 90% of our commodity-based money.

They fooled the people into working for the 'idea' of money instead of actual money.
