Welp, Max played his last ever hs lax game tonight. Lost 12-9. Defense didn't play great. Max did. He had 5 of those 9 goals, 2 assists, a lot of ground balls, and 4 checks for turnovers. (He's a legit 2 way middie. Attack when needed)
Hugged that smelly, sweaty boy after the game (dude flat out reeked and I've never cared. I want my hug) He was cool. A little pissed at the team play and missed opportunities, but so proud of everybody this season overall. And, as he told us, he has 4 or 5 more seasons, so it's not over.
The other team played hard but clean and I wished them luck going forward. They're going to need it. And I'll be cheering for them. They're next opponent is a frontrunner to win state. I think they have 7 legit D1 commits.
It was super cool of the opposing team coach, players and parents to make a point of telling us and Max what a great game he played and wishing him well in college. The coach told us they gameplanned to shut down Max. And still couldn't. His speed in real life was different than film and they didn't realize how physical and aggresive he is. (Shoulda watched his fb film. )
The other team played a great game over all, made fewer mistakes and took advantage of ours. Good win. They deserved and earned it.
Good gracious, I love watching my kid play. He loves it and you can see it. It's so much fun when I know exactly what he's thinking and exactly what he's going to do. And so does everybody else. He flat out looks at you and tells you to bring it, bitch. (He also happens to be an elite trash talker)
*not just 'mom bragging'. Max is an athlete. It's his gift. Max really is D1 good. Football and lacrosse. He made the choice to go lacrosee. The coach that recruited him had been watching him for 6 years. Until 2 years ago that coach was at Penn State. Max knows what D1 entails and isn't what he wants (his sister went D1. It's a frigging job and they own you). He wants to play. He wants his education ( business /sports management) He also wants a life.
He's going to be playing and coached by one of the best. The 9th winningest lax coach in all divisions. And Pilat played for Roanoke. No nonsense, no bullshit. Max appreciates that. No chance there will be a sudden coaching change (as happened with my daughter). Max can't wait to get on campus and get going with the team.
Dude just wants to play with like minded men. Frigging win or die trying. And have a blast along the way.
