Why does America care what Taiwan does? It belongs to China by International agreement. As far as I now it was never US territory. It was a part of China under the Quing Dynasty until the Chinese Civil War in 1949. Not the USA

Unlike Ukraine, we have a serious national interest in Taiwan. They make 2/3rds of the world's semiconductors, most of the world's high-end semiconductors. It will be years before we could make the chips we need. Further empowerment of Xi is one of the worst things that can happen.
