I'm talking about the premise of it. I believe that it ended so we could continue doing the exact thing you point out. If the draft continued we couldn't have occupied Afganistan for 20 years, no way.
America has deteriorated because we have largely walked away from God. Military service won't fix that. Especially not with the military we have now. Taking prayer out of school, abortion, the lgb freakshow that every part of our country has become, it's no wonder we're under judgment.
Draft or not likely wouldn't have impacted something like Afghanistan occupation. Many years, we had less than 10,000 troops there.
Why didn't the draft prevent the decay in the 1960s?
You do have a point with the draft and political pressure...if you have to compel the troops to fight it will be a shorter campaign
But the answer is not to have a draft but to remove or ignore the dogs robbing the cradle and feasting on war
