Some friends had one come up to their dock yesterday evening. They cut on a fresh water hose and said it drank for 5 min before lumbering away. Trying to get pics.
I've seen them in fl and heard about them bw Charleston and myrtle but never seen them myself. Just curious if anyone has had a chance to meet one

Thats really cool, didn't know that you were supposed to give them fresh water. Are they lost or something?

I have never seen one in SC waters, but have heard of others seeing them. Not often though

My mom lives on Broad Bay Island back in Va Beach and has one frequently visit. She has an attached floating dock at the very end of her regular dock and it just jumps up and chills, heads out to eat, then comes back for a nap.

Shes not allowed to feed it or go up to it or anything.

Yeah they drink freshwater by the truckload. They will swim up river til it is fresh to drink. I've had friends here and in garden city help them out but I've never seen them here either. I did see them in Florida once. I wouldn't say lost but more just on the edge of their perimeter

Wow did not realize they went that far north. Learn something new

I went fishing with my boys on the inter coastal near new Smyrna beach a couple of weeks ago and we had one swim right up to us. Then it went and rolled around on a sandbar 20yds away for a few minutes.

Also caught about 8 mangrove snapper, some kind of ray, about 10 catfish and a blue crab.

Yeah they used to be in shem creek a lot. (Charleston)
Not so much anymore, and yes they will drink water from a hose by the gallon.
They are a blast to swim with and are really gentle. They will let you hang on. Pretty cool creatures to be honest.
