@ChicagoFats This photo before he released them....to hunt them?

This family just gets weirder and weirder by the day.

Pretty clear the embezzled money was paying off all the crooked folks to keep all their crazy shit quiet. They will use drugs and gambling as the excuse. This will allow almost none of the other corrupt POS's to go down.

little known fact is that the Grandpa Murdaugh 2 generations ago died with about ~$15k cash in his office drawer. It would be a decent amount of money in today’s dollars.

These boys are about as corrupt as they come. Kinda hate to say it, but it’s the truth. Nothing will surprise me what comes out of this.

I suspect Alex Murdaughs brother Randy is involved deeeeep. His other brother John Marvin isn’t sleeping well I can promise you that.

there are memebers of SLED and the local police departments that are shting their pants right now. They were right with the Murdaughs and in o

That PMPED law firm is gonna be toast. Lot of lives ruined, but I have a hard time believing they were an honest bunch.

Just depends on how deep Law enforcement wants to go. I promise you there is a lot to find.

You'll know it's real bad when the FBI gets involved. If they decide to take a look, it goes as deep as the FBI wants it to. They don't fuck around when it comes to this stuff. A family member is an agent. She's been involved with investigations around embezzlement, etc. If the FBI believes there is intent, they will investigate until there is nothing more to find. I actually hope that happens here.

Me too. I wonder what could cause the FBI to get involved? Would it have to cross state lines? No idea what the requirements may be but it would be interesting.

I doesn't have to cross state lines. If there is any indication of corruption with law enforcement? Especially at the state level, they can come in. Embezzlement in any form, especially when it hits the millions of dollars can trigger their entry. I'm actually surprised they aren't already involved. Hell, they got involved in the homicide of the girl in Piedmont Park here in Atlanta after just one week.

It's fit news so grain of slaw.
In the aftermath of PMPED’s announcement that Alex Murdaugh potentially stole more than $10 million from the firm, several questions have been floating around in my mind. Among them:

Why did the law firm pull its website offline in the aftermath of the embezzlement announcement? Especially after its statement urged clients to make contact with its attorneys to answer questions?
Exactly how much money is Alex Murdaugh alleged to have stolen from the firm? And over what time period did he allegedly steal it?
Where was the money allegedly stolen from? Trust accounts? From other partners?
When did the firm first realize Alex Murdaugh was allegedly embezzling money?
Why did the firm wait until Labor Day to disclose this alleged theft?
What is Alex Murdaugh supposed to have done with the $10 million he allegedly stole from PMPED?
None of these questions have even been remotely addressed by the mainstream media coverage of this saga.

Of course, there is an even bigger question to consider: A week after leveling this allegation, has PMPED contacted SLED and asked the agency to launch a criminal investigation into the alleged theft?

The firm has hired a group of Columbia, S.C. accountants to conduct a forensic audit of its finances, but have they asked law enforcement to pursue a criminal investigation into the missing money?

(Via: Facebook)

As of late Sunday afternoon, SLED has yet to acknowledge receiving a request from PMPED to investigate the embezzlement allegations against Alex Murdaugh (above, right) – which is surprising considering the firm previously told the press it reported the alleged theft to the agency.

Late last week, a source who spoke confidentially with one of the defense attorneys working the Murdaugh case reached out to me. According to this source, the attorney described the unraveling saga as something akin to “an episode of Ozark.” That’s a reference to the Netflix hit in which a financial advisor from Chicago (portrayed by Jason Bateman) drags his family against its will to rural Missouri – where they become key cogs in a massive money laundering operation at the behest of a Mexican drug cartel.

Another source close to the same attorney claimed they made a similar reference earlier last week comparing the Murdaugh case to Ozark.

Meanwhile, late last week an ominous email began making its way through South Carolina legal circles. I have been warned against quoting directly from this message, but it hints in no uncertain terms that the embezzlement allegations leveled by PMPED against Alex Murdaugh are just the beginning of a much larger scandal – one that is going to metastasize far beyond the family, the firm and the fourteenth circuit.

The email referenced compromised judges, financial institutions, law firms and elected officials – and intimated that the tentacles of corruption reached far beyond the borders South Carolina.

A source who forwarded the email to me spoke of “genuine panic” within the state’s legal community, adding that “while they may not know it yet, everyone in this state knows someone, perhaps many, in severe legal jeopardy right now.”

Local sources have offered similarly dire predictions.

“If Alex Murdaugh and his family goes down, there’s a lot of people – maybe a whole system – going down with them,” one Hampton native told me on Saturday. “There’s nobody who didn’t want to be on the Murdaughs’ payroll.”

I have no idea at this point where the rabbit hole leads … but at this point, it is becoming increasingly clear it leads somewhere.

Stay tuned … as I noted at the conclusion of a recent Murdaugh-related post, the national networks and Hollywood vultures clamoring to tell a story they think is unfolding “have absolutely no idea of the real story that is coming down the pike.”

Man arrested for helping Alex Murdaugh attempt suicide. They both have admitted the shooting on the side of the road was a set-up. It actually happened, seems like the hired hand couldn't get the job done.

HAMPTON — State investigators have arrested a suspect on allegations he shot prominent attorney Alex Murdaugh in the head over the Labor Day weekend as part of an attempted fraud scheme to collect on a $10 million insurance policy.

State Law Enforcement Division agents arrested Curtis Edward Smith on Sept. 14 in connection with the non-fatal shooting, according to SLED spokesman Tommy Crosby.

Smith, 61, is charged with assisted suicide, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, pointing and presenting a firearm, insurance fraud, and conspiracy to commit insurance fraud. He remained in custody the night of Sept. 14 at the Colleton County jail.

Murdaugh, 53, allegedly admitted in a statement to state investigators Sept. 13 he asked Smith to kill him so his son could collect a life insurance policy worth approximately $10 million, according to arrest warrant affidavits. Affidavits describe Murdaugh as a co-defendant in the alleged conspiracy, though he has not been charged in the case.

The shooting occurred on Sept. 4, one day after Murdaugh resigned from his family’s law firm amid accusations he had embezzled money from the legal practice.

That day, Smith followed Murdaugh to rural Old Salkehatchie Road, where he shot the attorney as he stood in the roadway, the affidavit states. Smith then drove to an unknown location, where he disposed of the gun, the affidavit states.

Murdaugh survived the shooting and was airlifted to a Savannah hospital. He was treated there for a head wound until leaving for rehab two days later, saying he was battling personal issues that had worsened since the June killings of his son and wife.

Murdaugh allegedly provided Smith with the gun he used in the attempted killing, the affidavit states. Smith confirmed to investigators after his arrest he was present during the shooting and he got rid of the gun, authorities said.

Smith has also been charged with distribution of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana, Crosby said, indicating additional charges are expected in the case.

The full nature of Smith’s relationship with Murdaugh remained unclear late Sept. 14. Court records indicate Murdaugh represented Smith in a speeding case in Colleton County in 2013 and in a personal injury civil case the previous year.

Smith’s arrest came one day after SLED opened a criminal investigation into Murdaugh in connection with money missing from the legal practice his great-grandfather founded, the PMPED Law Firm in Hampton.

The law firm has said Alex Murdaugh resigned Sept. 3 after it was discovered he had “misappropriated funds in violation of PMPED standards and policies.” The firm has not disclosed an amount, but one unidentified member told The New York Times the missing money totaled in the millions.

The following day, Murdaugh called 911 and reported that he had been shot in Hampton County. His attorney, Jim Griffin, indicated Murdaugh was checking on a flat tire on his late wife’s Mercedes-Benz when a truck turned around and a gunman opened fire on the attorney, wounding him in the head.

SLED described the wound as “superficial,” but Griffin has maintained it was a significant injury that fractured Murdaugh’s skull, caused hemorrhaging and left entry and exit wounds. He was still hospitalized when he released a statement indicating he was entering rehab for treatment of unspecified issues. Griffin and Murdaugh’s publicist later confirmed he was battling substance abuse.

The S.C. Supreme Court suspended Alex Murdaugh’s law license two days later.

Randy Murdaugh, his brother and former colleague, said in a statement at the time he was “shocked” to learn of his brother’s drug addiction and “stealing of money.”

The ongoing revelations have marked a stunning turn of fortunes for a family whose name was synonymous with wealth, power and prestige in this southernmost corner of South Carolina’s Lowcountry.

Three generations of Murdaughs served as the region’s top prosecutor, an office they collectively held for more than eight decades. Alex Murdaugh previously worked part time for the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, which was once run by his father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Now, he finds himself under intense scrutiny by law enforcement.

In addition to the Sept. 4 shooting, SLED has been working to solve the killings of Paul and Maggie Murdaugh, whose bodies were reportedly discovered by Alex Murdaugh on the night of June 7. Paul Murdaugh, 22, and his mother, 52, were said to have been shot with two separate guns. No arrests have been made nor suspects identified in the double homicide, despite the Murdaugh family offering a $100,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the case.

I have hunches and gut feelings based on what I know about the family. So its hearsay, but i have always thought they were involved in the cover up of the the gay kid Stephen Smiths death. I thought from the very begining that AM and FAMILY obstructed justice in the aftermath of the boat crash. We were always told to call Randolph (grandad) if there was any problem whatsoever. You could basically do what you want and if there was any trouble you called Randolph. "What if we can't get ahold of Randolph?" .... well you call Alex. So that was the mindset and that is exactly what happened in the boat crash. I've always felt where there is smoke there is fire and its turning out the house is going to burn to the ground i guess.

I just wonder how many people Alex Murdaugh is going to take down with him. Its not going to be a short list.

Was "killed" by a passing trucks side mirror on a back road. Other people believe Timmy and a friend did it with a baseball bat because Smith was going to out dick buster as a faggot.
On a back road. Riiiiight. That was my immediate thought was that the family didn’t want people to know the son was chugging cock

What’s the story on Smith?

He was a kid that had come out of the closet and was gay, which wasn't exaclty easy in Hampton, SC. Small backwoods town in the deep south etc. He was on a baseball team with Paul and / or Buster Murdaugh and ALex Murdaugh was the coach.

Fast forward a couple years and the gay kid is found dead in the middle of a backwoods highway unde suspicious circumstances. They said he "got hit by a the mirror of a large truck driving by" . The cops when investigating heard rumors about the murdaughs, but the coroner eventually ruled it an accidental death. Rumors about a gay relationsip with either Buster and Now Alex have both surfaced.

It was highly suspicous when it happened and it got swept under the rug under in several ways. I'll try to post some links soon

It is bizzaro world. What has happened the last few years is unprecedented. Maybe the Murdaugh family is largely responsible for everything. From Voting fraud all the way up to Covid

I've been told this book is related to Alex Murdaugh and his father and gives a little insight into the family. Just started it so not sure how relevant it is yet.
