Just curious why you identify Spieth specifically. He's been up and down over his career, so he actually seems like a guy that could see the advantages of the LIV tour.

Spieth, regardless of his recent play, is the golden boy or one of the few of the PGA. Regardless of how he is playing, he is always shown and ballyhooed for his skills. I have a friend who followed Spieth for all 18 holes via an app last weekend. Did other players get the same recognition?

I don't know. I just watch casually, mostly during the major tournaments, which is why I was asking. I'm sure that most of the top 20 players have a group of followers that have identified them as their favorite, for whatever reason. Maybe the school they went to, state that they're from, style of play, personality. Then again, as I said, that's just speculation, as I don't know how common that is.

There is always a group of talented young guys that are latched onto and promoted. It’s nothing new.

Spieth had a chance to be the golden boy when he came onto the tour lightning hot and won a few tournaments right out of the gate. But since then he has been pretty silent and hasn't seemed to be able to close out and win tournaments. I feel like he missed his chance.

The tour is lacking the star power right now imo and understandably so. Tiger was a once in a lifetime type of player and his shoes are big to try and fill.

McIlroy, Speith, Thomas just don't do it for me.

I like John Rahm, Dustin Johnson and some of the other guys but they lack star power like a Woods or Mickelson.

Of the newer guys (aside from Scheffler), I think the highest chance of stardom is Morikawah (spelling?) and Hovland. Scheffler gets it done on the course, but doesn't really have the star persona. I think that these 2 could have that, given time. However, if the LIV tour existed when they were coming up, my guess is that they would have joined there first, due to more guaranteed money.

I think that's where this is really going to hit the PGA. It's not the current top 10-15 guys, it's going to be the up and coming guys. Scheffler took a while before he really got it going on the PGA tour too, right?

Is the LIV making guys sign long term agreements? Or can you just sign a 5 year deal or something? I haven't really seen what the actual agreements are for these guys.

Yeah, i have the same questions as you. I have heard that the LIV is / should target the amateurs that have not turned pro yet. Will the PGA hold that against them in the future? I wonder if someone who has never been on the PGA could theoretically play the LIV for a few years and then switch over to the PGA if they wanted?

Lots to be worked out in the coming years.

They will. They will do exactly what Phil Mickelson was talking about....raise the purses. Significantly. At the end of all of this, pro golfers everywhere who were taking their shots at Phil, Greg Norman and the LIV tour itself will be thanking them because they will all be making more money regardless of where they want to compete.

The PGA tour and their self righteous commissioner Moynihan have a big problem. 8 of the top 50 have already signed with LIV already and that is while players are being threatened with law suits by their current "employer" if they play in LIV events.

The R&A just announced LIV golfers can play in the British Open if they are qualified. So that means the USGA and R&A have sort of rebuked the PGA tours temper tantrum.

I was not impressed with Monahan the other day being interviewed by Nance. His demeanor was put-offish. Same with Brandel Chamblee's rant.

Re: Threat of suits. If these players are independent contractors, how can they be sued by their "employer" without it jeopardizing the PGA's non-profit status? If they are deemed employees and the PGA is their employer, the PGA is going to owe millions in back taxes, social security and medicare taxes. It would seem the PGA would have no control over these players other than what the PGA has already done by suspended them.

I believe the Masters and PGA will also allow any of these players who qualify to play in their tournaments too.

Spieth is the PGA Tour's most popular remaining American player if the rumored guys to LIV wind up going there. He is extremely important, uneven play or not. Obviously, excluding Tiger, but Tiger barely played a qualifying schedule when he was young and healthy, he's certainly not going to now.

Yes to all of your post! Speith is one of the move the needle guys on tour. Which there are not many of. Bryson went to LIV and he was one of the tours biggest draws, whether you like him or not. Phil was a huge draw as well for the tour. The PGA tour better come up with more personalities or they will suffer. Who the heck tunes in because Scheffler, Thomas or Rahm are playing besides golf nerds like myself? I’ll watch any golf tournament but the average person isn’t.
