TFSF Golf Thread

I will be there on Saturday. I have been fortunate enough to play The Country Club a few times but it was never during a US Open set up. Interested to see that specifically. I was also hoping Phil would make the cut so I could follow him and root for him, loudly. Doubt Phil will make the cut though. Even in his prime this would be a rough place for him to score.

Those are my kind of shots right there. I pride myself on hitting out of terrible lies and positions. Unfortunately, it's because I put myself in those positions too often.

A year or two ago, my ball was lodged about a foot in the air in the branches of a small shrub. I knocked that thing close to the green from about 130 yards away.

Last week, I was out with my son, and I carried my approach over the green and ended up under a mesquite tree with low branches, about 20 yards off the back of the green. I was able to crouch under some of the branches, use my utility wood, and punch it out under the branches, up the slope, and roll it up to about 15' from the pin. Granted, I'm not that good, but those shots are some of what I love most about golfing.

Well, did you make the putt?!?

My team won. My cousins and I have for the past 25 years do a majors "competition". Before the Masters, we have a conference call and choose 12 players for our teams. We count the scores of the lowest 5 players and whomever has the lower combined total strokes wins the major. We tally up all 4 majors and the person with the lowest average at the end prevails. We have a trophy with a bronzed golf cup on top and each year's winners name engraved on the sides that we send around for that person to keep for the year. All of us have the same last name and we call it The __________ Cup.

Sounds pretty gay.

I posted it for you and your husband's benefit.

I would agree with you if I hadn't done some of the same as Murray in the past. The game gets the best of all of us at times.

I don't mind it to an extent, but golf is a gentleman's game and I like it that way. I guess there is a fine line between being yourself and showing your emotions and, well, being a jackass.

Snapping your bat in baseball doesn't bother me at all. Snapping a golf club at a tournament seems pretty douchy. Not sure why i differentiate between the two. Maybe because golf has higher expectations on behavior?

Rahm looked like he was considering snapping a shaft on one of the final holes. What will Murray being fined, or will he, for throwing his club?

I get what golf is and I agree that it a game of etiquette but I also get that none of us are perfect and if you judge everyone based on a bad thing on a golf course, you would not like very many golfers in general. Murray does not have a history of this that I know of, so I am willing to give the guy a pass.

I saw Scotty Scheffler, by all accounts a chill dude, slam a club a few times green side on 18 Saturday. I just don't think these guys should be killed for making a mistake. If they make a habit out of it though.....

Golf is boring as fuck. Any happy Gilmore antics only help make it better.

Seems they have overestimated their power and control.
It's pretty naive and arrogant to think that people would be willing to turn down a guaranteed large chunk of money just to play on the prestigious, PGA tour. As I said a while back, the only players that really benefit are the guys that are in the top 15-20 in the world, because they finish high enough in a lot of tournaments to still bring in a load of money, plus sponsors.

However, if the LIV pays a much higher guaranteed wage, and you're not one of the top players in the world, why wouldn't you go? If you can make 5-10 million in the next few years, you could set yourself up for life, as opposed to just trying to make it by on the PGA tour.
