I've had a big interest in molten salt reactors (MSR) for some time. They are starting to get some serious research investment now, and a commercial investment is getting more feasible every day. I really believe the MSR is a viable bridge to fusion generation, and like this article shows, the MSR is also capable of being implemented at a small enough scale to be mobile (something I cannot ever see with fusion). The US has some of the largest supply of thorium in the world too. MSRs could power this country for hundreds of years.
