Years back when I started in heavy construction, we had a crusty old bastard guy who was our Superintendent. When he would fire somebody, it was not like now, all weepy bed wetters and perfect decorum.
It usually began with shouting and cursing, then he would make the sign of the cross like the Pope and shout pick up your tools and fuck off. Hence we used to say he put the sign of the cross on him.
