He should not have shot him just from a practical standpoint. However, responding to a domestic violence call is the most dangerous call we respond to. Would I have shot him, I would like to think that I would not have. If I were him, I wouldn’t have opened the door until I confirmed it was a deputy/police. It is sad all around. Not only did the guy die, but that officer will have to live with that for the rest of his life.

I’ve been doing this 25 years in metro ATL. I have never EVER known a cop who wanted to come into work and shoot somebody. Most officers will go their entire career and never fire around accept to train and qualify. I assure, that’s what all of us want.

Barranquilla is a nice city/modern with nice hotels etc - it's a port city - close to Sant Marta which is a nice town on the coast - being on the Caribbean it will be warmer and more humid. My Spanish teacher lives there - if you want recs let me know. She knows it Santa Marta and Cartagena very well and can point you in the right direction.

From there it is also a short trip to Cartagena which is a beautiful historic town on the beach.

Palominio is a beach village/pueblo about +/- 40 miles south of Santa Marta towards Venezuela - will be a lot, I mean a lot more rustic - think like a surfing village without the waves and natural versus Santa Marta is more modern and much larger. Santa Marta would be like Playa del Carmen in Mexico.
