• Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

Feed store I used to go to in Arkansas for chicken feed and horse feed etc. Was owned by an old Southern Gentleman, with a great sense of humor, if he was around the store and feeling ok, I would try and get him going.
Somehow he got on the subject of Yankees, some northern city folk had been in the store or something.
He says yah know until I left home to join the army, I never heard them called nothing else but "Damned Yankees" I just did not know better. I choked on my soda and the two old married women behind the counter snorted and chuckled.
Not all Yankees are created equal. Mostly the Yankees that wandered down south were the sort who weren't wanted round these parts anyway. Where I grew up I bet you'd have fit right in nice. No paved roads for miles and loads of timber country to hunt fish and trap. Horse trails and hiking. I spent my entire youth growing up barefoot in the woods doing all sorts of crazy things that would have kept my parents up nights worrying about if they had known how little sense I had.
