This trial made me pull together some thoughts.
Someone recently posed this question to me: "Do you really think the world is run by satanic pedophiles?"
My response was: it always has been, why would it be any different now? Who do you think the Sodomites, Egyptians, Midianites, Canaanites, Philistines, Babylonians, Romans, Mayans, Aztecs, all had in common?
This took that person by surprise. They were familiar with ancient civilizations and practices, but never had connected the dots. It's mentioned quite openly throughout the Bible and other historical texts.
More often than not, we look back at the religious practices of old and even the ones still carried out today with anything from a raised eyebrow to a

This isn't really new or even controversial, but the scale and consistency is still horrifying at the core.
So this turned into a discussion of "why?"
My response was along the lines of, Satan is very clever and very deceptive, but he's not all that creative. For instance, when Hitler first took power, he set fire to the Germany Capitol and blamed it on the opposition party in order to consolidate power. Sound familiar?

Applying this concept, if you remove all of the context, which is highly important, what did God do for his ultimate act of love? He sacrificed his son. This was predestined with the story of Abraham and Isaac, and Satan took what is meant to be an illustration of the ultimate sacrifice that most people could relate with, giving up your child for the good of others, and twisted it into the despicable and sinful act of child sacrifice.
Satan's twisted reasoning: if you want to be God, which he and all of his followers ultimately do, then you have to sacrifice your kids.
This isn't new. It's not original. It's extremely distorted. It's also gone on from the beginning of man.
