I can't believe this either. My workplace has mandated that you have to show a vaccine card to be allowed to work in the office. Proof of prior infection (PCR test result) not considered. No rationale given, other than "this is what others are doing". I just traveled to Iceland for vacation, and proof of prior infection gets you exempted from the mandatory quarantine. That's an example of reasonable policy. Somebody, please explain what is the differentiating factor between someone who is vaccinated and someone who has natural immunity. (It can't be done.) So maddening, and IMO, belies a separate agenda.

Here's a good article about mucosal antibodies, which are antibodies that exist on the mucus surfaces of your upper respiratory tract (URT: nasal cavity, throat, etc). Vaccines induce antibodies in the blood stream, but not mucosal antibodies. This would be a good explanation for why vaccinated people (who don't have a prior infection) are catching covid and are able to spread to others, even if their symptoms are reduced. The infection still rages in their URT. The body's very first line of defense against viruses like covid are the mucosal antibodies. By the time antibodies in the blood stream are brought to bear against the infection, the infection has already progressed from the URT to the lower respiratory tract, where it enters the blood stream.
Natural immunity does include these mucosal antibodies. This is another way that natural immunity is a broader immunity.
