Looking for a fun place to visit or looking at a place that you might move?
I'll answer for visiting....
The USAF museum is incredible. I actually like it more than the Smithsonian (I've been to both more than once or thrice. I never get tired of the USAF museum here). If you like history and a (hopefully nice fall day) Carrilon Park in Dayton should not be skipped.
That said, Dayton isn't Cincy. And, Ohio haters...shut it. A TON of our beloved country's history was born here and there are much worse places to live and raise a family.
I really like Cincy and Dayton for different reasons. I'm a Dallas girl so Cincy gives me a little bit of that big city *home* vibe between trips home. But that's more shopping and dining. I'm usually popping down to West Chester or Hyde Park (WC every day right now thanks to Max's lacrosse). It is a cool, safe city to enjoy. I could live there, easily. With my daughter moving there, I'm actually looking forward to more reason to spend time down there. She's going to live in Marimount and work in Hyde Park. (Both just great areas)
I can tell you more about Dayton and cool places to visit here than I can Cincy. (But I can give you hotel and restaurant recs for Cincy if you want to have a very happy wife and a fun weekend. My husband and I try to 'escape' the whopping 50 minutes down 75 once a month).
It may be nerdy, but I love the aquarium and I and the kids really love the Cincinnati Museum. I like the building (I love architecture... and I'm still arguing hard that Ohio is
not Midwest) and there's always great exhibits/artists in addition to their fixed museums.
I think The Ark is about 1.5 hours down in KY? I haven't been. If y'all go, I would love to hear your feedback.
We (both cities) have lots of independent breweries, great dining and just a cool vibe if you know what to look for.
