Log Trains to Rockwood [on the Durango and Silverton]
During a fire mitigation project in early 2024, Colorado's Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad volunteered rail equipment and crews to move logs from the job site to waiting log trucks at Rockwood. Most of the work was done with a former White Pass and Yukon MLW diesel number 101. For one day (just for our cameras) K-36 steam locomotive number 480 was steamed up to pull the log train. Steam combined with cold winter air made for an unforgettable experience.

AN EMERGENCY shelter-in-place order has been issued after dangerous chemicals spilled onto train tracks following a massive derailment.
Locals in rural Kentucky have been told to stay indoors following the incident shortly after 6am.
The derailment in Todd County caused one of the carriages to leak molten sulfur which can result in severe burns.
In a fire, molten sulfur may release toxic gases, such as hydrogen sulfide or sulfur dioxide.
“Kentucky, there has been a train derailment in Todd County, and local emergency management has issued a shelter-in-place for the City of Trenton,” Governor Andy Beshear said.
