Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

The folks that have let the rules go to hell, the people that are there to enforce the rules, and the NBA in general. This game does not resemble the crisp game I grew up watching. It’s basically a circus now for individuals.

There isn’t three steps in either.
I’d imagine people could confuse two for three in the second video but the “first step” ,which occurs upon receiving the ball, establishes the pivot. After that there is two steps and then the next coming with the dribble which re-establishes pivot.

For the second video, you don't get to take any steps without dribbling, let alone 2 steps before ever dribbling. For someone who follows the NBA you sure are clueless about it's rules and players.

- Puts two hands on the ball, or otherwise permits the ball to come to rest, while he is in control of it;
- Puts a hand under the ball and brings it to a pause; or
- Otherwise gains enough control of the ball to hold it, change hands, pass, shoot, or cradle it against his body.

The first video isn’t a travel either because he only takes two steps while dribbling.
So again the rules say neither were a travel and the best referees in the world also agreed it wasn’t a violation.
