Here we can share items that we may haven't thought of yet. I can't remember which thread I read it in, but there was a story by a guy from Bosnia who had to survive with his family for over a year In the 90s, and didn't have the amenities we are so used to having.

I figured we could keep a running list of important items that we need to stock up on for when SHTF. if I put amounts, they are based on 6 months to a year.

FWIW, I'm starting with defense and security items. Of course the human body needs food and water to survive, but how are you going to get said food and water and everything else if you don't have a good offense/defense?

DEFENSE/SECURITY:

Weapons and Ammo - not going to say what all I have on here but every family should own at least one of each of the following: a tactical rifle, long rifle, shotgun, probably 2 handguns. I think the minimum amount of ammo should be 2K rounds per weapon system.

Razor wire and sand bags for home defense.

Tools:

Gasoline
Carpentry tools
Mechanic tools
Chainsaw
Shovels

Food & water:

Canned goods
MREs
Various seeds for planting
55 gal barrels for collecting rainwater
Water filtration system
Gas stove with ample amounts of cooking gas (butane probably for camping stoves)

Hygiene & medical:

Bleach
Disinfectant
Rubber gloves
Trash bags
Antibiotics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kerosene (learn to make)
Toilet paper
Detergents
Soaps
Masks
Body and foot powder
Various medicines

Trade Goods (this is how you will survive, by bartering. Money will not be good anymore):

Candles
Lighters
Batteries
Lanterns
Knives
Flints
Alcohol
Tobacco
Coffee

These are just the basic items you should have in the event we have to survive on our own. Of course there are many others and that’s why I created this thread, so we can all share our own thoughts.

Listen, all of this is great, but if you don’t know how to USE said items, it’s time you start learning; how to garden, how to dial in a scope on a rifle, how to clean/ maintain your weapons and tools, how to purify water, how to clean an animal, etc…

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out. Be safe my
e-bros.

I was at Cabelas and bought one of those life straws in case of an emergency situation. I heard they screw up a lot of times after the first use though.

Fish antibiotics are perfectly safe for humans and work exactly the same as the human version. I believe they even have the same names. Plus you do not need a prescription to buy them.
Never head of this. Is it like fish oils?

Not exactly. I think they are made to put in the water/fish tank to control infections in fish… except they come in a capsule/pill format. My MIL (registered nurse) told us about them and now we always keep some on hand. I’ve taken them a half dozen times over the years and never had a problem. In fact I just finished a “Z Pack” to knock out my covid pneumonia. Worked perfectly.

Salt. Lots of it. Unless you’re on the coast, it’s not readily available and is a good preservative. It will be the new gold if the grid goes down.

Also, rice. Big 50 pound bag is good to have on hand. Will last a while.

Pinto beans too

Adding a food dehydrator. I’ve been considering a large one so we can go ahead and start sealing stuff up

That’s a good list but I would add a scoped air rifle/pellet gun in .22 cal. The rifle as well as the ammo is cheap and plentiful. Most use a piston system now so they last and probably the most important reason is the sound emitted is dampened enough you don’t send a beacon to whoever is in the area. Most children can be taught to operate with relative ease. In an urban setting this would be more useful than a large calibered long gun if you are depending on hunting small game for survival.

Fuck would love to get a case or two of MRE"s after Ivan came through they were giving them out like candy. After Sally they would only give one per person per trip to the distribution location.

I spent a year eating those in college

My Grandpa told me once “there is no situation in life that either a condom, a book of matches, or a pint of whiskey won’t get you through”

Keep a few bottles of water and some tools in your car or truck. Try to keep a snack or 2 if weather permits. If a serious event happens and you have to walk home its better to have that covered. I'd add mosquito repellent and or change of clothes too if you are more than a few miles from home. If you have to cut across country to cut off some distance it will pay to have some deet and extra clothes for either cold or rainy situations.

Get home first ideas.

Can't recall where, but I am the one who posted that. Excellent read, and quite enlightening as to what it would really be like if things totally fell apart here-

I read that dudes post a couple months back. Really makes you think.

I told the wife: we might not need all this shit, but we can always use it after the all clear.
