I worked with a guy who’s father arrived in Missouri on the Orphan Train in the early 1900s.
He described his dad basically being purchased by a farmer for labor. Took the farmer’s last name.(through adoption of course)
Nothing less than government sponsored human trafficking.
Of course history tells the Orphan Train story with compassion and charity.
Who knows what really happened to thousands of those kids.
