Currently taking place in Lancaster, California officials have issued a Shelter-in-place as numerous firefighters are battling a significant 3rd Alarm fire at a car recycling yard. The fire is sending large flames and thick, black, toxic smoke into the air, visible from miles away. According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, about 1,000 vehicles have been consumed in the inferno, with potentially 1,000 more at risk. No injuries have been reported so far. Local residents are advised to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed, and turn off air conditioning systems to prevent exposure to the toxic smoke. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
There are still a lot of combustible material inside a car in lots like those, but how the fire got that big is interesting. I’d like to know what started it. It could have been spread by the winds that are clearly killing that elevated hose stream from the tower truck (probably just need real engine guys to go take care of the fire!!)
