Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

Went to college to become a teacher/coach back in the 70's. Last semester of my Sr year, when we did our student teaching, we were told
no corporal punishment was allowed. That broke the camels back on becoming a teacher. If I only knew you could stroke it with no ramifications I might have reconsidered.

I think the teachers may be more brainwashed than the students. They are indoctrinated into self-importance, laziness, and general lack of understanding as to anything outside their bubble. It is possible re-educating the educators is more important than the students.

Saw this yesterday and Mackey talks about intellectuals (he groups the academic community in there) right at the beginning. Basically says that they have always been in school because they are usually the smarter ones (better at taking tests) and they don't like business people because those people are usually not as smart as the intellectuals and therefore shouldn't make more money than them which then leads to capitalism bad, socialism good. I agree with what you said about them being in a bubble and while Mackey doesn't explicitly say that, you could make that conclusion from what he said because they are always in school and likely with the same group of people for that time, therefore they forget that people exist outside of their bubble.
