Still waiting to hear back from my parents if they have power back on. Don't think they do. They've had a very chilly 18 hours.

My mom made stew last night, but has no way to heat it up today.... until I told her to put it in a pot and set it in the fire place.

I at least know they had a warm meal tonight, but the fireplace only goes so far for heat. Luckily, it's a wood burning, large fp, so it does put out heat.

I'm a little torn on how I'm feeling right now. I was supposed to be there by supper last night, but made the call that there was no way I was putting my kids in the car with this shitshow. But, personally, I would feel a lot better if I was there with them. I have more than my fair share of experience losing power for days on end while trying to keep warm. Thanks Ohio.

The snow is coming down so hard here that I can't see 100 yards. So many potty pads in my family room. The littles can't go outside, so I'm training them to pads.


Edit: the tennis courts are a little over 100-150 yards from my back door.

I have 5, but we haven't repaired any of them yet. (We have a list of what we want and need to do). After today, we're adding in 3 fireplace repairs to the kitchen reno. The bedroom fireplaces aren't a priority. They can just look pretty.

I do have 20 something candles in my family room fireplace and they surprisingly put out a ton of heat. I could have fixed all 5 fireplaces 5 times over for what I've spent on candles.

And in this house, that heat is 100% necessary.

Your story about your daughters was moving! I didn't comment because you nailed every part of that situation but just wanted to say keep your chin up!

Your daughters know that what they are supporting isn't the solution but they've been convinced that change is even more necessary.

I'd suggest showing them how 47's American addresses the problems that BLM and Antifa supposedly combat. Simply showing them that other people recognize the same issues goes a long way.

They're obviously open to ideas (given the BLM and Antifa stuff) so give them an alternative that's palatable like populism. Leave 47 out of it completely not that's what works especially to start!

He's 16. Nowhere close to that. We all know where his brain is.

The thing is, he didn't tell us to 'subtly' ask us to stop talking. He was annoyed that she was 'upset', but he's been raised to be a gentleman (if Dad or I wouldn't kill him, his 3 older sisters would, otherwise). That was his out to respecting and supporting his girlfriend while knowing that we would pick up on what he was telling us.

The girlfriend won't be around much longer. We talked later and he was more annoyed that he thought she was disrespectful to us. Listening in on a conversation while we were purposely giving them privacy....our house is 7 levels (not full stories, but still pretty separated and hard to hear from room to room) and then thinking it was perfectly acceptable to criticize us in our home and expect him to shut us up.

...while she was snuggling my Stella, no less. I did take my puppy back a few minutes later.

Sadly this happens a lot. When we had an ice storm, 10ish years ago, we had like 20 deaths from some weird shit where people were trying to stay warm. carbon monoxide, burned down houses... people start to panic when they get real cold and will do really stupid shit. Electric was out 10+ days with temps in the teens. Gas grills and generator exhaust I think killed 5 or 6.

Agree 100%. I can’t stand these “woke” fucking teens. My wife is from Michigan (we live in Oklahoma) and all of her family but her are bleeding heart liberals. About 6-months ago we were told by her 18-yr old niece that if we voted for Trump it was a vote against her and we weren’t welcome in her life. Mind you this is the same niece whom she helped raise, bought clothes for, paid bills for the family, etc.
I went off on her niece and her dad, wife’s brother, for that comment. Wife had to talk me down from flying up there and continuing the conversation in person. It was utterly unbelievable that my wife was talked to like this. Such disrespect and entitlement runs rampant in this generation. I ended up having a long talk with her Brother and his wife. I told them we have no problem changing our 2-trips per year to visit them (they can’t afford to visit us). Money would be much better spent going somewhere tropical.
