Pax is an old friend of my wife's. They used to be in a church group years ago when he was an attorney in McKinney, Tx. They had many dinners together back then with Pax and his wife and her and her hubby. It was long before I came along, but find it interesting.

I am trying to learn more about Bitcoin and you seem like someone that could answer my questions:

Bitcoin has a supposedly fixed maximum of 21 million. About 18 million have been mined. So there are about 3 million Bitcoins left to be mined.

Mining bitcoins is accomplished by using processing power to process blockchain data. Blockchain data processing results in a bitcoin after so many billions of processing cycles. Bitcoins are the reward for spending electricity and hardware to benefit Blockchain. This worldwide computing power is what empowers Blockchain. Without the massive distributed worldwide processing power, blockchain would not be able to function. But, they only donate this power and time to benefit by receiving a Bitcoin.

That is my understanding and it is greatly lacking.

But my hypothesis based on my understanding is: Blockchain will fail without the reward of Bitcoins.

Bitcoins are almost at the max 21 million. Therefore would there be more bitcoins released? That would ruin the trust in Bitcoin. Who releases them? Also, 21 million bitcoins can be easily market manipulated. Investment in Bitcoin is something that I would not do at this point.

What am I missing?

To add to this line of thinking.

If energy is ultimately the root driver for Bitcoin, then what happens if energy is either unlimited or severely restricted?

If energy is truly unlimited, then the unit cost to produce Bitcoin goes nearly to zero and the amount supplied is infinite.

If it is severely restricted (i.e. Green New Deal), then underlying support structure falls completely out of the bottom making Bitcoin virtually worthless.

What are we missing?
