Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

When Politician's tell us Zero Fossil Fuels by 2050, what does that really mean?
People want it and vote for it, what is that?
Without Fossil Fuels that means 7.9 B humans on planet earth will be in trouble fast.
Fossil Fuels currently plant and harvest most of the food to feed that 7.9B people.
It transports all that food by truck and rail and boat around the world.
It produces the herbicide, fungicides and pesticides to sustain these crops.
It produces fertilizers to produce more crops faster.
Without fossil fuels we will essentially be trying to feed 7.9B people with animal power and human muscle like in 1820.
This means for 7.0B it will not be your day to eat.
It means a massive depopulation. Think before you vote.

The Sierra Club and the U. S. Forest Service were presenting an alternative to the Wyoming ranchers for controlling the coyote population. It seems that after years of the ranchers using the tried and true method of shooting or trapping the predators, the Sierra Club had a "more humane" solution to this issue. What they were proposing was for the animals to be captured alive. The males would then be castrated and let loose again. This was ACTUALLY proposed by the Sierra Club and by the U. S. Forest Service.
All of the ranchers thought about this amazing idea for a couple of minutes. Finally an old fellow wearing a big cowboy hat in the back of the conference room stood up, tipped his hat back and said, "Son, I don't think you understand our problem here. These coyotes ain't f**kin' our sheep; they're eatin' 'em!"
The meeting never really got back to order.
