Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

I absolutely disagree, and here is why.
You cannot just shoot someone for trespassing. This has been born out numerous times, and is part of every conceal carry course.
Until the shooter goes in and gets the gun, there is no life threatening situation here, just a trespassing. Shooter guy escalated the whole thing by adding the weapon, and upon escalation the other man has a right to defend himself. Also, after throwing the shooter he does not charge or threaten. The situation is a stale mate until the shot is taken.
He may get lessor charges than murder, but shooting an unarmed man should always come under strict scrutiny, and in this case I find it hard to believe the I feared for my life line. Especially if he k ew the other man prior to this.

I agree though. It went from verbal confrontation between ex husband and ex wife to a situation where a guy got killed when the shooter brought out the gun. I didn’t see any other injuries happening, even after the shooter got the gun out.
And talk about mother of the year there, keeping her kids around the guy who just shot their dad.

This is my take too. I do not see a deadly threat, and thus no justification for deadly force.

My suspicion is that it was all planned by Kyle and ex/girlfriend. It was too perfect. Obviously not the first time they've been late in delivering the son. Not the first time he's been upset about it before. He's a known hot head. Ex/gf starts filming after Kyle comes out with gun. They knew what they were going to get from Chad and he delivered.
The wife (pickup) said she thought it was a paint gun or something like that. You can hear her say "you really did it" in a very distressed manner at the very end of the video, so some emotion does happen but isn't on the video but for a second.
Kyle's current wife (soon to be ex) is a district judge in town so it makes it all very sticky. I've heard that the DA's office has recused themselves and a DA out of Austin is working this.
Lost in all this is that if Kyle goes to jail, I lose a voter. (I'm on their school board)
