Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

I have a family acquaintance high up in a position where they know some things. (Trying to be as vague as possible.)
I don't get to talk to them often, but I always ask "should I be worried?" Last time we spoke about a year ago I was told China now has first strike capability, Also told me I should worry.

Nah, no need to worry. Dont you think some Chinese general would warn us if they were going to launch an attack?

In my uninformed opinion, I would think the biggest concern for the USA would be relative to the power grid. As was said previously, if they employed a system like this and set off some nukes across our country at whatever the critical elevation is to act as an EMP, it would cripple most of our country. I'd like to assume that our military has backup plans and alternative power options, but for the vast majority of people, it would be devastating.
I have a hard time believing that China would actually want to nuke our country though, if they had their eyes set on taking over and using our land. Unless they want to destroy our military and then take the land from other countries once they didn't have to worry about us.
Just speculating obviously, but it just seems like that whole mutually assured destruction conversation again. If China (or any other country) starts down that path, it's going to get very ugly for our entire world.

I have a similar acquaintance who was in a position to choose which program they wanted to work on. Something in the hypersonic area or a different top secret project. Word on the street was that the hypersonic project, whatever it was, was way behind with unrealistic expectations and was a total cluster. This was maybe three years ago.
at that time it was known China was way ahead of us on hypersonics. I’m not sure why their success is such a big surprise several years later. And I’m just a guy who knows somebody who can’t really say anything too specific about their job.
I had to set down for a bit. My bp shot up bad again. I'll play catch up in the next couple days.

And just think that each drug lists of side effects is extensive. I’m certain that’s why there are no Covid jab commercials done my the drug company directly. If they did they would have to list side effects. They just rely on the free propaganda and third party (Walgreens) commercials that don’t have to list side effects.
