I was going to reply with Novovax but someone else already beat me to it. I also remember seeing another story that there are something like 60-100 (approx.) different vaccines being developed around the world. The main difference I believe, is that we gave the specific contracts and emergency use approval to Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J, and bought millions of doses before they were even done testing, just so they would have them available assuming they were approved.
Pot committed.
So if we allowed some of the other traditional style vaccines to pass through, we (US govt) would essentially have thrown away a bunch of money putting it into these MRNA jabs. Personally, I don't care about the money they've put in at this point. Just get the best options out front. And frankly, right now, it looks like the best option might be the monoclonal antibodies. They need to get behind those and fast track millions of doses.
