There are many reasons why this is happening. For instance, Philadelphia is slapping a 4% transfer tax on real estate transactions. In many transactions that wipes out profit. Some people are getting around this by using a LLC or Corporation to hold the property. They sell the LLC or Corp to the new buyer which doesn't trigger a transfer tax. The new buyer owns the LLC/Corp which owns the property. Illinois has some weird rules which interfere with RE transactions.

Russia is pumping a lot less natural gas to Europe all of a sudden — and it is not clear why

It is interesting, and I know will sound counter-intuitive, but I'm not sure God wants those people out of Afghanistan.
His work might be for them to be there. Our "Western" approach to missions is often to shelter/retrieve people from persecution. That isn't how Jesus approached it, at least not to fulfill his mission.
There is a great book called the Insanity of Obedience that really dives into mission work in persecuted areas and what we've learned over the past 60-2000 years on this topic

US Intel fears that when we leave, the Taliban will take down the internet, expel foreign journalists and "eliminate people by the thousands...anyone who might remotely be a threat." US Emergency teams are being told their only safety guarantee is to get on the next flight.
