Hmmm, change my mind....
Something stinks…
New Orleans Parish Assistant D.A. Found Dead by “Self-inflicted” Gunshot Wound
Ian Kersting had been assigned to the office’s SAKI unit, a specialized division that works in partnership with NOPD detectives to investigate and prosecute cases through the use of recovered DNA evidence.
Why do I have a feeling this is somehow tied to the New Orleans Attack?
The Assistant District Attorney would be involved in prosecuting if “additional suspects were identified” or if there were any legal proceedings stemming from the investigation.
However, given that the perpetrator was killed during the incident, the role of an ADA in this case would likely be:
1. Providing Legal Guidance: Assisting law enforcement with legal advice during the investigation, especially if there is a need for warrants, subpoenas, or other legal documents.
2. Prosecution of Accessories or Co-conspirators: If any evidence emerged suggesting OTHERS were involved or aided the attack
3. Handling Related Legal Issues: There might be legal actions or inquiries related to negligence, security measures, or civil lawsuits that could involve the DA's office, where an ADA would play a role in representing the state's interest or defending against such claims.
