Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

I read this book, which a great book for any young engineer to read.
Building the canal was a bitch and we did after the French fell on the face in humiliation trying to do it.
It cost much treasure and many lives due to malaria and yellow fever.
It is ours I don't care what the Panamanians say.
The French were scared that once they started building the canal, that the US Navy would show up and kill all the workers. Well that didn't happen and the French failed. The French looked like a monkey gaining carnal knowledge of a football.
We own that canal and the US Navy will take it back if the Panamanians suck up to the Chinese.
I am 100% confident they have a plan right now to do that.
