I am not a conservative. I am a radical – a radical monarchist. I believe there are no rails – and never were any. America has no manifest destiny. Her constitution was not divinely inspired. No special providence was involved in her founding, nor has she discovered any unique principle of human governance. Nor can any theory of historical determinism, whether liberal, Marxist or libertarian, explain, predict or guarantee her future – which, like all future history, is a contingent and unwritten blank page in the hands of men only.

And while she is indeed plunging into a ravine, every realistic way to save her starts with centralizing all sovereign power in a single person – or at most a small team. This historically normal political structure is the appropriate way to terminate a failed experiment in political science, which appeared to work only because it started off with an amazing population in an empty continent on the threshold of an industrial revolution.

Rather, I believe, America is an ordinary country with an ordinary government. Even its form of government – an institutional oligarchy – is historically unusual but is hardly unique. Due to the compounding rise of technology, we are at a unique point in human history – but nothing at all has changed about political science. In fact, Aristotle would understand us better than we understand ourselves.

Nothing new or unusual about man's greed. Greed of money, greed of power, and the willingness to do all kinds of unspeakable evil against his fellow man in order to get more. We thougbt we had freedom and the checks and balances to keep it. The deception so complete we fell asleep. Skol!

I like the look on his face. He has that look like " I wish a motherfucker would".... I've seen some rednecks in my life get there and then just taunt a group into fucking with him until he could just start swinging on all of them LOL.
I was hoping to see one of those dipshits pulling white plastic out of his nasal cavities.

It's a tragedy that he lost his life, but when the police bang on your door and yell "Sheriff's Office, open the door!" two times, it's in your best interest to not answer the door with a gun in your hand, even if pointing it at the ground.
Last time I checked, it’s not illegal to answer the door holding a gun pointed at the ground. In fact, it’s a clear violation of this gentleman’s 2nd and 4th amendment rights. In this country, the police do not have a legal right to enter a home without a search warrant, signed by a judge. Regardless of if the deputy announced his presence, the citizen has a legal right to hold a weapon as he answers the door. Clearly, he didn’t realize it was a cop, and arguably didn’t hear the announcement. There is evidence the deputy kept himself out of view of the peephole, as well, which didn’t assist the citizen in determining who was knocking at the door so aggressively. All that is moot, however, if we are to believe we have a 2A right in this country, and especially in Florida where we also have the “castle doctrine”.

While i understand the larger point you’re making, it assumes this guy knew what was going on and who was at the door. And even then, the deputy should have allowed the citizen to put the weapon (that was pointed at the ground and merely being possessed) away. Had he pointed it at the deputy, I get it. But what he was doing was no different than if he had it holstered on his hip.

I also understand and respect that police officers and deputy sheriff’s have an incredibly difficult and stressful job to do, and they should be highly trained to deal with the risks they encounter on a frequent basis. Training that should teach them and reveal to them that their duty comes with risks they need to assess in a matter of seconds. It’s risk they have to live with as a part of what they signed up for - it doesn’t mean they have the right to make their job have zero risk. This deputy decided that day he was going to make his job “risk free” and just shoot an American citizen because he answered his door holding a firearm. He can’t do that in this country legally. You can’t just shoot people to ensure a risk-free day for yourself when you’re wearing a badge. If a man can’t assume SOME risk, he probably shouldn’t be in law enforcement.

In America, cops do not have the justification to just shoot people for holding a weapon without first giving lawful commands that ensure the safety of both himself and the citizen. Whatever happened to “FREEZE!”?

It’s tragic and I have a hunch this will be murder…

as if a robber wouldn't say that....
In that case, you don't open the door, look through the peephole, and loudly ask the officer to show you his badge, then ask what he is there for. Or you can just not answer the door, as you're not required to do so unless they have a warrant. I'm not saying the officer was in the right, I'm just saying that the decedent shouldn't have opened the door and put himself in that position in the first place.

Video shows him actively staying away from sight through the peep hole. Have to agree with the "cop was at fault" side here and I rarely do that.
