Pat Flood (@rebarcock) passed away 9/21/25. Pat played a huge role in encouraging the devolopmemt of this site and donated the very first dollar to get it started. Check the thread at the top of the board for the obituary and please feel free to pay your respects there. I am going to get all the content from that thread over to his family so they can see how many people really cared for Pat outside of what they ever knew. Pat loved to tell stories and always wanted everyone else to tell stories. I think a great way we can honor Pat is to tell a story in his thread (also pinned at the top of the board).

Wrong - they can vote anyone as Speaker of the House - you do not have to be a member of Congress.
As the Constitution does not explicitly state that the speaker must be an incumbent member of the House, it is permissible for representatives to vote for someone who is not a member of the House at the time, and non-members have received a few votes in various speaker elections over the past several years.

I’m just asking for purposes of use... Shit like this does one of two things:
1) helps throw facts in the faces of those who claim Trump supporters are domestic terrorists (e.g. here’s a guy that “stormed” the capitol who was posing as a Trump supporter to further a false narrative)
or...
2) Make us look like idiots for mindlessly proliferating something that is not true...

If he says something similar on gun control I might not vote against him in the primary. He went limp wristed after the stoneman Douglas shooting, where the clear answer was to deal with the kid who did the shooting instead of gun control.
