Viruses and other microbes develop resistance to medicines, e.g., MRSA, which makes fighting and killing them problematic. It's why the best vaccines are those that use a killed virus which forces the body to develop antibodies to the whole virus and not some portion of it. If the vaccine fights a certain portion and the virus recognizes it's being attacked, it's reasonable to believe the virus will develop defenses to the half-assed vaccine. mRNA in theory sounds good. In reality is sucks.

Insects do the same thing. It's why many species of cockroaches and other insects become resistant to pesticides. Bed bugs are resistant to almost everything.

Edit: Viruses aren't treated with antibiotics like other microbes. However, with what is being seen with Ivermectin and HCQ, and FauXi's own writings, that may have to be amended in some respects. If they don't actually attack this virus and kill it then they work all around it by reducing its effects. Regardless, impartial and unbiased studies need to be completed showing exactly what the mode of action is with respect to both those drugs and this and other viruses.

One of the pesticides used against cockroaches is based on Allopurinal, a gout medicine, chemistry. Early in my bug assassination career I had a slumlord rent-by-the-week apartment complex. Almost every unit was crawling with massive numbers of roaches. However, a couple of units next to some really nasty ones had no roaches anywhere. I asked the tenants what they were doing. They pointed to the corners where 1/2 Bois d'Arc fruits (horse apples) were placed. They said that roaches didn't like being near them.

Point is, just because something is meant for one purpose, doesn't mean it can't be a viable solution for other purposes. Strange how science is always evolving.

Be very careful using any powders. If you can see it when applied, too much has been put out. DE is especially bad because people put out so much that it looks like white ropes around the baseboards or piles of powder on their floors. Walking stirs up a dust in the air even after vacuuming. The vacuum cleaner stirs up dust too. That gets breathed in and can cause serious lung problems. DE is basically microscopic plankton which looks similar to the round disks farmers use to plow fields. Those disks cut insect's bodies breaking the integrity of their exterior "skin surface" causing desiccation. That does the same in people's lungs. Anyone using powders indoors would be wise to wear dust masks.

One tenant read about DE on the internet and bought 4 gallons of the powder and put it out liberally in his apartment. Looked like a fog with each step. He doubled down and sprayed on top of the DE. It's now chunks and white streaks of DE. It ruined the carpet. He's a hoarder so there is no way he can get rid of the bed bugs. This is going on 3 years. He refuses letting me solve his problem which would necessitate removing everything and the carpet then steaming or heating the entire unit. That's very expensive. I've used DE but only outside or in attics. Never in the living space. A lot of people do.

Bed bugs are everywhere and many people get them when traveling or their friends and relatives bring them when they come to visit. I spent several days treating a local college student's apartment. Got them killed. The next week he let a friend from Central America stay with him. His friend brought another "present" in his duffel bag. Another 2 days to eliminate them.
