Wanted: A Viable Third Party

I am increasingly convinced that the only things that can salvage our Republic at this point are a violent bloody Revolution or a Viable Third Party.

I usually vote Libertarian, but it is more or less a protest vote. The Libertarian Party is not a competitive party. I agree with a number of its principles, but many are too "kooky" for mainstream Americans to get excited about.

I supported Trump this year because I hate the mainstream media and establishment with every fiber of my being and love to watch them squirm.

The "Patriot Party" as some have envisioned would not be viable because it would primarily draw MAGA folks from the Republican voter base and draw very few from the left. It would just give the progressive left and media an even better chokehold on the rest of us.

A viable third party would have to draw voters from the right and the left.

A third party established along the following lines would surely be viable, especially after this past election:

Pro First Amendment
Pro Term Limits
Anti-Corruption at every level (federal, state, local)
Anti-Censorship
Restrictions on Wealthy and Foreign Actors influencing elections
Not Trump-centric or Personality-centric so it could draw from the right and left
Constitution-centric
Anti-Socialist

Perhaps call it the "Constitutional Anti-Corruption Party"
Symbol: Guy Fawkes Anonymous Mask

This type of party would draw from the right and the left. It would pull both sides towards these principles and if enough momentum was generated, could become the "kingmaker" in enough elections to make a difference.

Many voters who voted Democrat this year were casting their vote against Trump and are not pro-socialist.

People need something other than the "lesser of the two evils" election after election.

If you know of anyone working on something like this, let me know so I can send them money and get involved.

Constructive ideas and feedback and Evey pictures welcome...

The problem is the votes we would lose the next 8 years. I am a member of the Libertarian party, have voted that way every election since 2000 except this one. We need a massive movement to change or we are giving the dems 8 years minimum of control.

I think it would be a lot easier to change the GOP.

I get where you are coming from, but I philosophically believe the two party system is fucked and cannot be salvaged without a third party to keep the other parties honest.

The third party has to draw from both the other parties to not be a waste and to have leverage as kingmaker.

That’s why it couldn’t be Trump-based. I know that’s a deal-breaker for many, but it would have to draw from the left.

So, basically, OP, you want a 3rd party which espouses the Trump agenda....but without a 'Trump-like' figure being involved with it?

Thanks for the reply. Not exactly. This third party would build on certain anti-establishment aspects of the Trump movement and impact but it could not be a cult of (any) personality to be effective.

I hear where you are coming from.

But the third party would just need to draw enough pissed off Americans from both voter bases to be able to stand in the middle and play kingmaker. That degree of leverage over the direction of policy could be established in two years.

You honestly believe after they got away with wholesale election fraud that the Democrats won't win every election from now until the end of our country?

I think a viable 3rd party would cure many of the political ills.
  1. We know that Congress only has about 16% approval rating. I believe the disgust has to do with people being fed up with both parties. The opportunity is available to start a viable 3rd party.
  2. Trump has a huge following from the GOP and has siphoned off a large percentage of the moderate Democrats. The attraction to a 3rd party supported by MAGA would be bigly.
  3. With enough 3rd party support, the Dems and the Pubs (found to be two sides of the same Deep State coin) would have to negotiate with the 3rd party to fulfill their agenda.
  4. It would make it far more difficult to game an election if there is a viable 3rd party.
  5. The 3rd party would need to be an America First type of party with a platform that includes:
    • Term limits (Congress, Federal judges, SCOTUS)
    • Congress has to abide by same laws as rest of America
    • Congressional benefits are no better than any other gov't employee
    • Congressional salaries are fixed (except cost of living)
    • Restriction on lobbying for 5 years after retiring from Congress or being a gov't employee
    • Limited lobbying of Congress
    • Line item veto
    • Limited foreign aid
    • Balanced budget amendment
    • National election reform (incl. voter ID)

Great feedback and points! Check out the Bobby Piton posts above if you didn’t get to read those yet.

I think this has to happen or nothing will ever change.

A third party is not the answer. You’re not going to take any votes away from the Dems. You’re only going to take votes away from the republicans. Do you even Ross Perot/1992 election bro?

Why do you say it wouldn’t draw votes from Dems? Many Dems are very anti-Trump but not pro-Socialist. It would give the non-extremists a Constitutional option.

I agree that a MAGA-based Patriot Party would mainly draw from the right and would not ultimately make a difference.

Bu a third party based on First Amendment, non-authoritarian principles could draw significantly from both sides, and that could make a difference.

It can’t hurt to think outside the box on these things, especially right now. I keep going back to the so-called “definition of insanity”...

I did just look up Ross Perot’s Reform Party, though, interesting that it still exists with 6,000 members.

The leadership of the left in this country is a bunch of wackos. There is certainly room to take votes from them.

I like the common sense party.
1. Term limits. Pick on career elected officials who are way too rich for their salaries. Pick on both sides. Also would be for reducing congress’s work schedule. Work two months is DC then go home to your district and hear from your constituents.
2. Reduce the federal government. Show people the money in and around Washington DC. Pick on high level bureaucrats and how much money that make, including pensions, travel etc.
3. Simplify government. Simplify everything congress does. Every bill must be read in its entirety on the floor by the sponsoring congressman or senators. Nobody else can help read it. There is nothing that requires a 5000 page bill. If it’s that long, it has other garbage in it - split it up. This will push more power back to state governments and make laws understandable for the average joe.
4. Help Americans First. Reduce garbage foreign aid like Pakistani gender studies. Pledge to invest $0.50 of every dollar reduced in foreign aid back into this country. Split between infrastructure, defense, renewable energy/water sources (cringe) and programs to help children or some such thing that sounds good (also cringe). Foreign aid should be for natural disasters, feed starving people, etc.
5. NO MORE BASELINE BUDGETING. Make a new budget each year and make somebody ask for/defend why my money should be taken from me and given to X government agency.

Sounds pretty MAGA I guess.

I agree with all of this except the word "leadership". Those schmucks in DC are not leaders, they are swamp rats that serve themselves and survive by riding the popular wave. At best, they should be called representatives, even though they aren't representing us at all.

I just don't see anyone breaking from the party line unless something drastic happens. People on both sides fear that the other guy will win if they don't back their party, regardless of how shitty your party is.

Just want to give you a different view.

You basically have a third party right at this very moment that is set up perfectly. What Trump did was basically make a party within a party. Now going forward your not going to have Trump and your never going to replace him. But you have the American first agenda. I think the problem the Tea Party had was they were running candidates and the establishment picked them apart because of political inexperience to run and then to govern. Trump ran into the same thing over and over again.

So you take the MAGA coalition and make it a voting block instead of a party or candidate. I would imagine a 15% to 20% voting block on the right some major concessions. It would be a real power base without the blowback of having a candidate destroyed from both parties. You simply your planks to begin and stick by them without giving in an inch. The first item should be more popular than just on the right and easy to achieve. The Republican establishment would loathe it but they would be powerless. And the voting block winning an issue would attract so many more people.

I’m out of my party as soon as I can vote against Rubio in the primary.
My personal belief is any 3rd party would likely mean a foregone conclusion that Dems rule for decades to come.
Not if the republicans become the centrist party and grab all the dem voters that don’t like the crazy bs that comes from the dem’s left wing leadership.

Fuck this nonsense. Ross Pert got Clinton institutionalized. Read everything you can. You kinda sound similar to a plant to destroying us by divide and conquer. Maybe I'm wrong. In fact I know I am. Think all this shit through logically and forecast why things are being done that way

Our best bet is that the Dims are dumb enough two split off a “Green Party” as the third party.
